A new beekeeping tool is in development
Help defend your hive from Varroa mites
MiteDefender is a coming-soon, temperature-controlled beekeeping system being developed to help reduce Varroa destructor mites through carefully managed heat treatment.
Varroa mites are one of the greatest threats to honey bee colonies
Varroa mites reproduce in capped brood, weaken developing and adult bees, and spread damaging viruses throughout the colony.
How MiteDefender is designed to work
The system is being developed to circulate carefully controlled warm air through the hive while monitoring temperatures at multiple points.
Why controlled heat?
Published research has shown that Varroa mites can be more sensitive to elevated temperatures than honey bee brood under certain carefully controlled conditions.
MiteDefender is being designed around this difference, with an emphasis on temperature control, circulation, monitoring, and repeatable treatment procedures.
Product goals
MiteDefender is still under development and testing. Final operating temperatures, treatment durations, product claims, safety instructions, and availability may change. This page does not replace established mite monitoring, approved treatment labels, veterinary guidance, or local beekeeping regulations.
